About Dr. John Hofbauer

Dr. John Hofbauer is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY, where he has taught Philosophy for the last 20 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Christendom College and his Master’s degree in Philosophy, as well as his PhD in Philosophy, from Fordham University, in New York City. At Mount Saint Mary College, he has taught Logic, Medical Ethics, General Ethics, Contemporary Philosophy, Introduction to Philosophy, and Philosophy of Science, among other courses. He has served as Chairperson of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies for six years, and was the founding faculty member of The Philosophers’ Forum, at Mount Saint Mary. In 2011, he served as the Chair of the 11th International Conference on Persons, in Provo, UT. Dr. Hofbauer has published a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals, made guest appearances on radio shows, and presented papers at multiple conferences. His most recent paper included a presentation in Berlin (June, 2024) at the seventeenth International Conference on Persons, entitled “Artistic Inspiration and the Human Person: An Intimate Synthesis of the Physical and the Metaphysical.” Currently, John resides in New Jersey — he and his wife, Buena, have six children and seven grandchildren.
